Legal Advice vs. Legal Information

Libraries and Eviction: Further Questions and Answers Webinar
Janurary 12th 2-3:00

WebJunction is offering another special session to provide you with the opportunity to share questions and experiences about how your library is assisting patrons facing eviction. We covered the basics in the webinar Understanding Eviction and How Libraries Can Help, and addressed some of your questions in the follow-up session, Libraries and Eviction: Continuing the Conversation but we know there’s more to talk about as the eviction situation continues to evolve. Whether you’re just beginning this work or have been answering eviction questions, you are absolutely welcome! We will begin with a short presentation about the partnership between Richland County Library (SC) and the NAACP, where library staff serve as housing navigators, playing a triage role in the housing instability crisis in their area. Following the presentation, experts from law libraries and legal aid will answer your eviction questions. We encourage you to submit your questions in the registration form or bring them to this informative and interactive session. Please join us as we continue to understand this complex topic.

Improving Access to Civil Legal Justice through Libraries

Through OCLC’s partnership with Legal Services Corporation (LSC) and consultation from law librarians, WebJunction designed and delivered national training for U.S. public library staff to strengthen their ability to identify civil legal issues and connect community members to relevant information and resources. By the project’s completion in June 2021, more than 1,000 library staff had enrolled in or completed the four-part course series, Creating Pathways to Civil Legal Justice. The courses remain freely available on demand through WebJunction’s Course Catalog.

Understanding Eviction and How Libraries Can Help - Training Recording.

A training opportunity from Webjunction, for public libraries earn how the library can better connect people to eviction-related information and services.

Housing insecurity and high rates of eviction were already a crisis in certain regions prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Soaring unemployment levels and confusing moratoria have also aggravated the situation. Under normal circumstances, the eviction process is so complex that it can be difficult for landlords and tenants alike to understand and navigate. Over the last two years, additional layers of complexity were added as national, state, county, and municipal government implemented, rescinded, or modified an assortment of policies related to eviction (National Low Income Housing Coalition). Join this webinar to understand the current state of the eviction crisis, recognize the basic stages of the process, and discuss options for forestalling evictions through rental assistance. Learn how you and your library can sort through the maze and connect people to eviction-related information and services. You can make a big difference in the lives of these community members
